Croatia’s skies are getting busier as it heads to the peak tourist season. And the new flight announcements keep on coming, with a new Austrian airline about to enter the market on July 2, 2016.
It is less than a decade since Ryanair entered the Croatian flight market, but the transformation of the industry since then has been staggering. The Irish budget carrier has been followed by many others, including easyJet and Norwegian, who make us a sizable share of the Croatian aviation traffic, and new arrivals keep on coming…
The latest addition to the increasingly busy Croatian summer schedule is People’s ViennaLine, a young Austrian airline, which operates out of St. Gallen in Switzerland.
People’s ViennaLine will commence its first operations in Croatia tomorrow, with the launch of a route between St. Gallen and Pula. The Saturday flight will continue until October 18.
The new route is the latest coming into Istria, and Pula Airport has shown great versatility in reinventing itself after losing a large proportion of its incoming traffic when Croatia joined the EU three years ago today. Until that time, Russian passengers made up 40% of the airport’s annual traffic, a number that dropped drastically on EU entry, with the imposition of visa requirements on Russian nationals.
