Badel Makes Ambitious Lunge Into US Market

The opportunity comes after gold and silver medals were awarded at a US wine competition

Two Manhattan restaurants have already sent their orders to Badel 1862, immediately after the mid-June promotion of 16 wines held in New York and Miami Beach, organised by the United States Sommelier Association Wine School, reported Poslovni Dnevnik on July 1, 2016.

Strong support for this project was provided to Badel by the Management Board member of that US association Aleksandar Noršić, while wines will be distributed by Grand Prix Beverage, already a distributor for Badel alcoholic drinks in the US. The step forward was motivated by gold and silver medals awarded among 4,200 samples at the 16th Finger Lakes International Wine Competition by wines Ivan Dolac Barrique 2009, Korlat Merlot 2012, Korlat Syrah 2011 and Dingač 50°.

Noršić and Badel’s export manager Slaven Sabolić introduced a list of chosen wines to numerous wine experts, sommeliers, importers, traders and consultants. They presented Badel wines, but also Croatia as a wine destination. The interest, Noršić details, was enormous, confirmed not only by the twice as long allotted time but also a poll undertaken by Badel with good results. Most participants had no specific knowledge of Croatian wines, while two thirds gave the highest rating, confirmed an interest in ordering and expressed readiness to recommend them. In 2015 the export to the US was up 60% than in 2014, Sabolić states and expects an annual growth of 20%. The Graševina was the biggest surprise for Americans, he adds, both in quality and price.
