More Employed in Industry, Productivity on the Rise

Croatian industry had 0.3% more employees this May than in April, but also 0.4% less than in May of 2015, while total industry productivity is up by 6.5%

Statistical data according to services shows the processing industry’s monthly employment, the category that holds 91% of all employees in Croatian industry, was up by 0.3%, while the annual level was reduced by 0.2%. The productivity in the processing industry had risen by 7.5% annually, Tportal.hr reported on July 1, 2016.

Within the processing industry, at the annual level the most significant rise by 17.7% was made in the tobacco industry, while a 10.1% rise was made in the production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers. At the same time, the largest fall of 19.1% was marked in the production of refined oil products.

However, that category holds under 1% of total industry employees.

The food industry, whose participation in employment is 15.5%, had 0.5% less workers compared to May of last year.

At the monthly level, compared to April, the number of workers in mining was reduced by 0.8%, while in supply of electric energy, gas, steam and air-conditioning it was down by 0.3%. At the annual level, compared to May of last year, mining has 6.7% less and supply of electric energy, gas, steam and air-conditioning has 1% less.

The data on productivity shows it growing in mining industry by 5.9%, while declining by 0.5% in supply of electric energy, gas, steam and air-conditioning.
