Ten million euros have been invested by a private university.

The new luxury hotel Le Premier in Zagreb was officially opened on Tuesday. The Libertas International University, owned by Gojko Ostojić, invested about ten million euros in what is one of the first significant investments in hotels in Zagreb since 2012, reports tportal.hr on November 15, 2017.

The Le Premier Hotel is located at Kralj Držislav Street, close to the Victims of Fascism Square, in a palace built in 1923 by the Croatian architect Lav Kalda, which is a protected cultural monument.

The building was purchased from Privredna Banka Zagreb. After the reconstruction, the hotel carries five stars and employs more than 20 employees. It has 62 regular rooms, a presidential suite, a restaurant, a spa centre and other facilities intended for business and leisure guests, as well as students of the Libertas University who will do their practice study at the facility since the hotel and tourism management is one of the programmes offered by the university.

Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić told reporters that the new hotel was significant for Zagreb’s tourist offer. Director of the Zagreb Tourist Board Martina Bienenfeld pointed out that it was good that cultural monuments – old buildings and palaces – are being used as tourist facilities.

“There is no other higher education institution or university in Croatia which offers its students practice classes with complete insight into the way a hotel operates and is managed. Our university has invested in this project, and we believe it will be an advantage over the competition,” said Rector of the Libertas University Duško Pavlović.

The Le Premier Hotel manager Nataša Langus said that the hotel would be open all year round. It has already received first guests, and the booking is good all the way through the end of the year, especially from people in business and tourists coming to Zagreb for the Advent festivities. As for prices, they are said to be similar to other such hotels in Croatia.
