HGK ŽK Split: A great interest was shown for the 3rd Regional Forum for Family Accommodation in Split-Dalmatia County.

The 3rd Regional Forum for Family Accommodation in Split-Dalmatia County was held today as part of the Adriatic Gastro Show at Spaladium Arena. The forum brought together more than 200 household renters within the county which further confirmed the necessity and importance of the gathering to make available additional education for this important segment of the Croatian tourist offer.

The Forum was organized by the Chamber of Commerce in Split with the support of the tourist boards of Split and Split-Dalmatia County.

“Family accommodation at the state level accounts for 50% of total accommodation capacities, and in Split-Dalmatia County this share rises to 70%. In Split alone there has been an increase in the category of family accommodation of 20% when compared to 2015. In short, family accommodation is a Croatian brand which should be improved and promoted. Therefore, the guiding idea of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce is to launch and organize these forums in an effort to constantly educate and inform providers of hospitality services in households, and to help them network with Croatian manufacturers and suppliers of products and services for family accommodation,” said Vesna Friedl, director of ŽK Split.

“The market recognizes us as a quality destination and it is important to improve the quality of family accommodation as one of the most important factors of the tourism product, and to encourage and divert to new market trends,” said Joško Stella, director of the Tourist Board of Split-Dalmatia County, who added that Split-Dalmatia county makes up 27% of the total family accommodation in Croatia.

Alijana Vukšić, director of the Tourist Board of Split, said that last year Split achieved a 26% increase in arrivals and a 34% increase in overnight stays, of which 55% of all overnight stays were made in family accommodations. Because of this, the tourist board has conducted a series of trainings for private renters while providing them support through the office for renters. In addition, they have been working together on developing new products in order to prolong the season.

There are more than 80,000 household accommodations in Croatia with more than half a million beds, which makes up more than 50% of the total number of beds. Croatian family accommodation achieves more than one third of the total number of overnight stays, but more importantly, this type of micro-enterprise generates revenue of almost two billion euros per year, and is estimated to contribute 100 million euros of investment per year – making them extremely important for Croatian tourism and the economy.

The Croatian Chamber of Economy began launching forums for family accommodation (national and regional) three years ago, and two years before that they launched the association Community for Family Accommodation within HGK in order to represent the interests of the landlord. ŽK Split was founded last year after the forum was hosted in Split.
