As part of the opening ceremony of the International Tourism Fair IViaggiatori in Swiss Lugano, Međimurje County and the Tourist Board of Međimurje County received the valuable Switzerland Tourism Award (The Swiss Tourism Award – STA).
This award, which represents and establishes international recognition, promotes quality tourism while protecting and positioning the natural and cultural heritage of countries. The award also encourages competitiveness and excellence in standards of services and products, and provides opportunities for presenting the particular destination to the Swiss public, reports HRTurizam.

“Swiss Tourism Award is primarily an indication of how well Međjimurje managed tourism. I am sure that this international award is a great satisfaction for all Međimuje tourism professionals, with a motive for further action. Also, I want to emphasize that this is one of the indicators of the great tourist potential of the Croatian continent in general, which is increasingly recognized by foreign tourists,” said Director of the Croatian Tourist Board Ratomir Ivičić.
The prestigious award was received by Director of the Tourist Board of Međimurje County, Rudi Grula, who emphasized the importance of the success of Međimurje.
“This award is the result of powerful and excellent synergy among all stakeholders who contribute to the development offers of Međimurje as an integral and sustainable tourist destination, starting from Međimurje, over to Toplica Sv. Martin, and all the way to the smallest tourist bidders. There is also our tourist board whose role is to organize destination management conscientiously and professionally and has done so for ten years while insisting on quality and sustainability. All of this gives results which are now recognized internationally,” said Grula.
President of the Scientific Committee of the Swiss Tourism Awards, Marco Pion, when presenting the award said that Međjimurje represents a region in the development of tourism that applies to the highest quality standards.
The Switzerland Tourism Award launched in 2006 with an excellent reputation for tourist destinations. The emphasis is on destinations that promote sustainable forms of tourism with an alternative to traditional mass tourism.
