Croatian and Albanian investors are repurposing two historical buildings in the heart of the Croatian capital

Two new luxury hotels are supposed to open in the very centre of Zagreb by the end of this year, reported Jutarnji on March 1, 2018. One will be located on the corner of Palmotićeva and Jurišićeva streets, with the investment coming from the Croatian company Ugo Group, owned by businessman Veljko Župan. The other hotel, to be located in Praška Street, will be opened by the Croatian company Abau, founded by the Albanian group Gener 2 specialising in construction and energy.

Both companies have already submitted requests for construction permits to repurpose existing buildings into hotels, and if the projects get approved, the new facilities might welcome their first guests as early as this autumn. Many believe that 2018 will be an even better year for the Croatian capital than the last one, when Zagreb was visited by almost 1,3 million tourists who generated more than 2,26 million of overnight stays.

At the end of 2016, Ugo Group presented their new brand Amadria Park which has since been joined by Milenij Hotels from Opatija and Solaris Resort from Šibenik. The future hotel in the centre of Zagreb will be their first city hotel at such a prestigious location. Worth 14,5 million euro, the hotel will be sitatued in a building which used to house the Croatian branch-office of Wiener Bankverein. Its 112 rooms should open in autumn 2018.

Amadria Park announced the new hotel will be branded as ‘Heritage’ and that its overall visual identity will be inspired by elements of Art Nouveau that are present on the original building.

Some 200 metres to the west, at Praška 4, the company Abau will open the other hotel. They have already sent their request to the City to reconstruct the existing building and repurpose it as a hotel, but their legal representative Boran Bušurelo said they are not making any details public just yet.

Alongside these two hotels, Zagreb might be getting another one in near future. There have been rumours about Adris Group opening a luxury hotel in the former seat of the insurance company Croatia osiguranje, located at the Jelačić Square.
