HNS Responds to Election Allegations: “Šuker was Chosen Legally”

The Croatian Football Federation responded to the Sports Inspection done by the State Sports Office, headed by Janica Kostelić.

On March 2, 2018, the Sports Inspection established that the electoral assembly in December, in which Davor Šuker was elected president of HNS, was illegal.

On their official website, HNS responded to the allegations made about the election.

“Concerning specific allegations in the media that the session of the HNS Assembly on December 22, 2017, was ‘illegal’, HNS informs the interested public and media of this on the following:

1. By decree of the competent administrative body, the City Office of the General Administration, in the Register of Associations, enrolled Davor Šuker as President of HNS in the next four-year mandate. The same body, which is responsible for the administrative oversight of the work of the Federation, did not have any remarks on the course, work and decisions of the HNS Assembly session.

2. In its record on February 12, 2018, the Sports Inspection stated that in its opinion, certain decisions of the Assembly, such as the election of the secretary, the adoption of the agenda and the adoption of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly, were passed before the new mandates were verified. The Sports Inspection will inform the City Office of the General Administration of Zagreb of that.

3. In the Sports Inspection’s same report, HNS fully contested its allegations and found that the session was entirely in compliance with the regulations.

4. The fact that the Sports Inspection has again exceeded its powers confirms the statement from the record the City Office of General Administration will report its findings, which means that it is aware that it is not competent to deal with this case.

Please note that the Sports Inspection has not issued any resolution or other act that would in any way disprove the validity of the Assembly session.

Therefore, the Croatian Football Federation denies this as incorrect, tendentious and misleading ‘news’ that the allegations of the Assembly session are ‘illegal’ or ‘illegitimate’.

Regardless of the unsubstantiated objections of the Sports Inspection, it is indisputable that Davor Šuker’s election to President of HNS is legal and legitimate, which even the Sports Inspection cannot dispute. In support of this, the fact is that Davor Šuker joined the Register of Associations as President of the Croatian Football Federation for the period from December 22, 2017, to December 22, 2021.

Everything else is the insinuation of those whose views cannot be realized on a regular basis at the Assembly.”
