July 18, 2023 – Vukovar tourist numbers seem to be looking great. In the first six months of this year, 30,725 people visited Vukovar, accounting for 46,679 overnight stays. That is an increase of 78 percent in the number of guests and 74 percent in overnight stays compared to the same period last year.

As stated at the press conference in the Vukovar city administration, writes Glas Slavonije, these data include school excursions, which returned in April last year after a two-year break due to the pandemic. Even without school excursions, there has been an increase of 24 percent in arrivals and 17 percent in overnight stays.

Kristina Bilić, head of the Administrative Department for Economy, emphasized that Vukovar is recording increasingly better results in the field of tourism. The first half of this year is no exception.

“The dedication of everyone involved in tourism contributed to the excellent results. I would like to thank the associations and institutions that cooperate with the City and our Tourist Board. Without their help, the results probably would not have been this good. All the events they organised undoubtedly contributed to the positive indicators”, said Bilić, adding that tourism is closely related to the economy and its development.

According to the assessment of the authorities, the results achieved this year are a confirmation of last year’s recognition received from the Croatian Tourist Board for one of the most successful continental urban tourism destinations. 13 new private apartments, rooms, and holiday houses were opened this year, so Vukovar now has 71 facilities with 1099 beds.

Another contributor to Vukovar tourist numbers is the Danube cruise ships on the circular route that bring visitors from all over the world. Since March 17, when the first cruise ship docked, 145 of the 341 announced have been recorded, bringing in 18,796 passengers. At this point, 63 percent of last year’s results have been achieved. The Tourist Board says that they expect the announced numbers of cruise ship arrivals to be exceeded since the season will last until the end of the year.

In addition to the fact that private accommodation and catering establishments benefit the most from the excellent Vukovar tourist results, hopes are that Vukovar will soon have another hotel. The data showed that there is a group of guests looking exclusively for this type of accommodation, which could further develop sports and congress tourism.
