Dalmatia – Wine Stories, written by Garmaz, has been nominated for the title of the best book in the world writing about European wines (except for French wines).
Željko Garmaz published his book Dalmatia – Wine Stories last year (and we wrote about the book, of course), and today he has announced on his Facebook profile that the book has been nominated for the Gourmand Awards 2018, in the category W1-6 which features best books written worldwide on the topic of European wine, except France. Those who follow the food&wine publishing know that Gourmand Awards can be compared to the Oscars, and the nomination for such an award is something to be extremely proud of.
The Gourmand awards are given in 100 categories for food, 30 for drinks. In total, Gourmand says that there are 1372 finalists, 1144 for food, and 228 for drinks, which really put’s Garmaz’s book in prestigious group.
Three best in each category will be awarded the title “Best in the World”, and Dalmatia – Wine Stories will fight the following publications: Port Wein by Axel Probst (Germany), Discover Dutch Wine by Mariella Beukers and Irene de Vette (Netherlands), O Vinho que Lisboa tem by Ana Cristina Marques (Portugal), Slovak Wine Guide by Vladimir Hronsky, El vino de Cangas by Neto Garcia del Castillo and Caroline Pelaz Soto (Spain), Chasselas by Chandra Kurt (Switzerland), Hidden Gems of Italy by Tony Margiotta (USA) and an unexpected title: Cracking Croatian Wine, written by Charline Tan, Dr Matthew Horkey and published in, wait for it, Singapore. Garmaz’s book is the only one among the nominated books that was self-published.
The awards will be presented in Yantai, China at the Gourmand Awards annual event May 25-28, 2018. Gourmand states on their website that it is not necessary to attend the ceremony in order to win, and we hope that Željko will find a way both to attend, and to win the prestigious award!
PS: In the Food category B15E – National Tourism website – Europe, we find another Croatian nominee: www.crogourmet365.hr, and Cracking Croatian Wine is also nominated in the W1-8 Wine and Spirits Tourism category.
