Photo of the Day: The Opatija Woman

If you walk along the coastline of Opatija, a touristic hotspot near Rijeka, you will undoubtedly notice the “Girl with the Seagull.” The sculpture was made by sculptor Zvonko Car and is one of the main symbol of Opatija.

The seagull in the sculpture used to also have a fish in his beak, but over time it vanished. The model for the “Opatija woman,” as Zvonko Car called her fondly, was Jelena Jendrašić from Crikvenica.
