Photo of the Day: The Velebit Massif

Total Croatia News

The Velebit mountain range is the longest in Croatia at 145 kilometres, ranging from 10 to 30 kilometres in width, but only the fourth highest, with the highest peak at 1.757 metres.

It stretches along the Velebit channel of the Adriatic Sea. Its entire area is a nature park, while Northern Velebit and Paklenica Gorge are national parks.

A popular place with mountain trekkers, it offers many trails and is home to many plant species, some of them indigenous, such as the Degenia Velebitica, shown on the Croatia 50 lipa coin.
