Photo of the Day: Winter is Coming

Total Croatia News

As the first snow in Croatia fell on November 20, 2015, it is perhaps time to put those memories of the beach in summer to one side and look forward to another magical winter in the country. There may be no swimming (apart from the real diehards), but winter is another busy time in Croatia, and more than 200,000 Croats are expected to go skiing this year.

Croatia’s tourism is changing too, and its season is getting longer. New initiatives such as Advent in Split and Advent in Zagreb are attracting tourists in months when the cities used to be all but closed for tourism, but there is one winter attraction which still trumps them all – Plitvice Lakes.

Attracting over a million visitors a year, this stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site is a fabulous experience whatever the season, and the four different seasons over a completely different view of the lakes from each other, with winter arguably being the most magical.
