The Fortresses of Croatia: Knin

Some of Croatia’s greatest treasures are among its least-visited, and the imperious fortress of Knin fits into that category.

Not only is the fortress, which towers over the town, strategically important rail hub and whole area around, the second largest fortress in all Europe, but it is also a fortification which has played a pivotal role in Croatian history over the centuries, and was even the seat of Croatian kings back in the 11th century. Don’t miss Days of Zvonimir each summer, as the fortress comes alive with knight battles, flaming arrows and an array of activities reminding visitors of Knin’s glorious past.
