July 1, 2023 – According to the specialized magazine “Global Traveler”, Dubrovnik is the best city for group travel. It received the “Leisure Lifestyle” award at the ceremony in Philadelphia, the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ) reported on Friday.

The director of the HTZ representative office in New York, Leila Krešić Jurić, accepted the award and highlighted Dubrovnik’s excellent position on the US market, writes Poslovni.

“When it comes to Croatian destinations and how Americans recognize the,, Dubrovnik leads the way in terms of brand strength. It is also the destination where tourists from the USA visited and stayed the most this year. 68,000 of them went over, accounting for almost 200,000 overnight stays, which are increases of over 50 and 40 percent compared to last year. We expect the positive trends to continue for both Dubrovnik and Croatia for the rest of the year,” said Krešić Jurić.

Importance of the US Market

She also emphasized that the US market is currently among the top 10 markets according to overnight stays in Croatia so far this year.

The magazine “Global Traveler” gave out their awards based on a survey it conducted among readers in the period from December 6, 2022 to April 1, 2023. The detailed questionnaire included several travel categories with a special emphasis on the luxury segment and lifestyle.

According to HTZ, this magazine is also recognized as a prestigious publication focused on luxury travel and the needs of travelers looking for this type of products and services.

“American tourists are in second place in Dubrovnik. United Airlines connects Dubrovnik with the USA with a direct flight four times a week. The USA is a very important market for Dubrovnik and it is very important to maintain visibility and target promotion of Dubrovnik as a desirable tourist destination. This recognition greatly contributes to that. In the future, we will continue our strong promotional activities on the American market. We will also keep up with our participation in fairs, forums, workshops and cooperation with airlines and the media”, commented Miroslav Drašković, director of Dubrovnik tourist board, in a press release.

Best city for Group Travel also Most Crowded

Meanwhile, as Poslovni reports in another article, the British booking site calculated that there are 36 tourists per inhabitant visiting Dubrovnik. This makes it the most crowded tourist destination in Europe.

Holidu, a reputable British booking site, calculated this, determining that Dubrovnik became the city with the most tourists per capita in Europe.

The site which helps tourists find and book accommodation and accompanying events, calculated the average number of tourists and locals using data from 2019.

For comparison, the previously most crowded European city was Venice, this time coming in second with 21 tourists per capita.
