Prime Minister of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, officially opened the new Sheraton hotel in Srebreno near Dubrovnik on October 2nd 2015. Minister of Tourism Darko Lorencin, Minister of Finance Boris Lalovac and Minister of Regional Development and EU funds were also present, along with the Vice President of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Robert Koren, numerous enterpreneurs, representatives of various tourist agencies and other distinguished guests.
CEO and owner of HUP, one of Croatia’s largest hotel groups, Anđelko Leko commented on the opening: “This is our celebration and a long awaited business victory. We have 450 rooms in our objects in Mlini and here in Srebreno we now have 250 rooms and 11 suites. Yes, we’ve experienced some difficulties along the way, but we’ve also encountered many great people who helped us get to where we are today. Thank you all. We have employed over 20 workers and without them we will not be able to reach our set goals, and every single one of those goals will be the result of our joint effort”.
Prime Minister Milanović took a trip down memory lane and stated that, while he worked in this area as a student, he never dreamed a hotel of this size and quality would be built in this location ” I just came back from London and I have to say, I stayed in a hotel that was three times more expensive, and in terms of quality it is nowhere near the hotel we are opening tonight. 25 hotels were opened in Croatia this year, and almost every single one of them was at least partly financed by HBOR (Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development). That is an export oriented bank and hotels like this one greatly contribute to the creation of new jobs and the increase of foreign currency revenue. Along with projects like this, our country just needs stability and peace.
