We tasted Prović family wines for the first time fifteen years ago, in the Zagreb trattoria Felini. The wines were endearing, a bit naive, full of potential for something better, with pretty ugly labels. Then we tasted the Chardonnay from this winery in Opuzen in the Neretva river valley in southern Dalmatia ten days ago, then yesterday, the today. Ch from 2015 is definitely among three or four of the best Croatian Chardonnays. Ch from last year’s harvest has achieved a fine balance between minerality, flower aromas, optimal oak and fine butter after taste. The wine if full bodied, but fresh enough not to remind of vintage Californian style. Ch from 2015 is a rare and quite valuable southern white wines produced from international varieties. The label and bottle are now as elegant as the wine itself.
