Additions and changes to existing law were a subject of yesterday’s Government assembly
According to the tweet which appeared on the Government’s official Twitter account @vladaRH, Croatian Mountain Rescue Service is finally going to have a stable source of financing. Final proposal of the changes and additions to the Law on the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service was published yesterday after the official Government assembly, full text can be found HERE.
After years of debate, uncertainty and insufficient funds provided to this fantastic organisation with 25 subsidiaries all over Croatia, HGSS will be partly financed by gaming revenues in accordance with special regulations.
Director of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service Vinko Prizmić commented on the new ordinance: ” This will finally secure a stable source of financing for our organisation. These few million kuna a year are absolutely necessary for our daily operations”.

Along with the new source of financing, new changes and additions to the Law on the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service mean that HGSS will have to be included in the Public need program of every city in Croatia and they will have the same status as firemen, for instance. So far, cities were giving as much money to the Mountain Rescue Service as they wanted, some never gave a cent like the former mayor of Metković, even though HGSS was among the first to respond and help when the city was hit by devastating floods.
