More youthful innovation coming out of Solin.
Twenty one students of architecture, art and art history from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina took part in a four-day workshop during which they developed proposals for urban interventions in the area near the mouth of the Jadro river in Solin. Their proposals were presented on Sunday at the Zvonimir Cultural Centre. At that location, currently there is a promenade leading from the port at the mouth of Jadro river towards a railroad bridge, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on October 5, 2015.
The student workshop is a part of the European project “Connecting Separated”, which is being managed by the City of Solin through the IPA program of trans-border cooperation between Croatia and BiH.
“The students had a difficult task that would be hard even for experts with much more experience. But, they should be congratulated because they were able to penetrate into such a layered space and come up with some interesting solutions. They have visited the location themselves in order to see how complicated the situation actually is. The port is cut off from the town by transport infrastructure, even though it is very important for the town. At that location, there is a direct interaction between archaeology and industry, two themes which are really important for the identity of this town. I believe that this workshop is a first step for Solin to get back to the sea”, said the project manager Antonija Eremut Erceg.
“The atmosphere during the project was excellent. I liked the idea of connecting students from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. We have broken some barriers, which is actually what this project is all about”, said Kristina Perić, student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Široki Brijeg, one of the participants in the project.
“Our group had focused on the archaeology of the area and we have tried to bring it out to the surface, to make people aware of its existence. I think that the workshop was quite successful and whichever solution is finally chosen, it will certainly be a plus for Solin and its citizens”, said another participant Luca Ninčević, 22-year-old architecture student from Solin.
The winning solution for the promenade designed by students will be realized during the spring of next year.
