Weather in Croatia Yet to Stabilize, New Storms Expected

July 21, 2023 – The devastating storm that hit continental Croatia on Wednesday afternoon claimed two lives in Zagreb and two in Slavonia, dozens of people were injured in the capital of Croatia, and material damage was extensive. The weather in Croatia is yet to stabilize.

New serious storms are expected today and tomorrow, and an orange alert has been issued for almost the entire country, writes Index.

According to the DHMZ forecast, today will be at least partly sunny and unstable. In the west, it will start raining in the morning, and from the middle of the day showers and thunderstorms are expected in most inland areas and in the northern Adriatic. At the same time, showers will occur locally, and thunderstorms are also possible with transient strong and stormy winds, especially at the end of the day.

It will be mostly sunny in Dalmatia, showers are possible in the northern part in the evening. Wind will be weak to moderate, south-west and south-east. On the Adriatic, southwest and south winds and jugo are expected. The highest daily temperature will be between 27 and 32, on the Adriatic from 31 to 36 °C.

“Be prepared for strong thunderstorms. Flash floods and hail are also possible”

An orange warning has been issued for the entire country due to possible thunderstorms. A red heat wave warning is in effect only in the Dubrovnik area.

“Be prepared for stronger thunderstorms that can cause great damage, and protect yourself from lightning. Damage to property and trees is possible. Local flash floods, wind gusts, and hail are possible. Interruptions in outdoor activities and traffic are possible,” warns Meteoalarm.

Hourly Thunderstorm and Hazard Forecast

The probability of a thunderstorm is above 70 percent in the Karlovac region (includes Banija), Lika and Gorski Kotar, Rijeka region (includes Istria), Split region and Knin region. It is above 60 percent in the Zagreb region (includes northern Croatia and most of central Croatia) and in the Osijek region (includes Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem).

New storms tomorrow, orange warning for most of continental Croatia

Storms are expected in almost the entire country tomorrow as well, and a higher level warning applies to most of continental Croatia.

For tomorrow, DHMZ forecasts changeable and unstable weather with occasional showers and thunderstorms, more frequent and more pronounced at night and again in the afternoon. Thunderstorms with strong and stormy winds are expected locally. In Dalmatia, sunnier weather is expected, especially in the south. In the northern part, there will be showers in some places at night and in the morning.

Wind will be weak to moderate northeast and east, southwest in the mountains. In the Adriatic south and south-west, in the evening a strong gale. The lowest temperature will range from 15 to 19, on the Adriatic from 21 to 27 °C. The highest daily air temperature will be from 24 to 28, on the Adriatic mostly from 29 to 34 °C.

An orange warning due to storms is in effect for the Zagreb and Osijek regions tomorrow. The chance of thunderstorms in those two regions is above 70 percent, with storms possible Saturday night and again Saturday afternoon.

A yellow warning was issued for the rest of Croatia, and a red warning was again issued for the Dubrovnik region due to the heat wave.
