August 8, 2023 – An alternative view on the good, the bad, and the ugly? Why did some British tourists thing prostitutes in Croatia are ugly?
Travel is a wonderful thing, and it certainly does broaden the mind.
It also provides plenty of opportunity for misinterpretation.
One such example was a few years ago on the island of Hvar in what was probably the funniest story I have heard in my 20 years in Croatia.
A friend rented an apartment to two British guys for a week in Hvar Town. He came to collect the keys at the end of the week and asked them how they had enjoyed their holiday. As expected, they had nothing but superlatives about the beaches, the nightlife, the women, the food, the wine, the nature, the… well pretty much everything.
Except one thing…
“The thing we couldn’t understand all week is that, while the women here are so gorgeous, why is it that the local prostitutes are so ugly?”
WTF?!? thought my friend.
