August the 22nd, 2023 – There have been 12% more cars present on Croatian roads at an annual level this year, with approximately a million of them taking to the roads this past weekend alone.
Croatia is a popular destination for the majority of European countries, and while flying here is certainly a very quick and easy (not to mention usually cheap) way of getting here, very many people decide to hit the road and drive to the country, this is particularly true for visitors from not only neighbouring countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Hungary, Serbia and Slovenia, but also for those from further away, including Austria, Slovakia, and Poland.
The Pandemic is well and truly over
The coronavirus pandemic, which now seems to have been very firmly assigned to the history books, saw far less German motor homes trundling along Croatian roads, but the 2023 summer tourist season looks as if we’re finally back to normal if the current numbers are to be trusted.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, last weekend, slightly more than one million vehicles passed through Croatian roads (more specifically the motorways) under the jurisdiction of Croatian Motorways (HAC). In addition to that, almost seven million euros were collected from toll charges (excluding VAT), which is more than last year, HAC reported.
A 12% increase
Vehicle traffic over the past weekend, from August the 18th to the 20th, on all of HAC’s Croatian roads saw an encouraging increase of 12 percent. That figure is equal to about 100 thousand vehicles more than in the comparable weekend of last year, according to HAC’s statement.
When it comes to the toll revenues themselves, which amounted to slightly more than 6.93 million euros (without VAT), they state that that figure is eight percent higher in comparison to the same weekend last year.
