October 6, 2023 – It is that time of year again: Conde Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards 2023 have Hvar in the 10 top islands in Europe – again.
It seems to be as regular and as guaranteed as Christmas itself. Every year, the prestigious Conde Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards vote for the best travel destination in the world. And every year, Croatia’s premier island of Hvar comes in the top 10 best islands in Europe, if not the best.
Indeed, Hvar was voted number 1 in both 2019 and 2021. Way back when in 2002, when I bought a house on the island, one of the first things I learned was that Hvar was one of the top 10 most beautiful islands in the world. This year, Hvar came in at number 9 in Europe, and this is what Conde Nast Traveler had to say.
A speck in the Adriatic Sea, Hvar comprises a port town and glitzy harbour where superyachts dock all summer. This island’s reputation as Croatia’s most luxe isle stands firm, partly thanks to its thriving nightlife, cool bars and ritzy restaurants. Head inland for a more rustic view of the place; dotted with lavender fields and vineyards.
It has been a good season for the sunniest island on the Adriatic, and there has been plenty of progress away from the beach. this includes the four island tourist boards finally coming together to brand and promote the destination as one, as we recently reported.
