October the 7th, 2023 – Economy Minister Filipovic (Davor) has issued some good news for road users today, as Croatian fuel prices are apparently set to come down – and considerably so.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Filipovic stated during his recent guest appearance on Dnevnik Nova TV that ”trading is still going on, but tomorrow and the day after, we’ll have some final calculations. This is good news for the drivers.”

“There are countries that have higher food prices than we have in Croatia, but we’re doing what we can. Residents of Croatia currently pay the second lowest price for electricity and gas. We have put price caps on thirty different product groups, we’ve also initiated deeper discussions with those in the retail sector. The reduction in prices we’ve succeeded with is very noticeable,” Filipovic said in conversation with Marko Biocin.

Croatian fuel prices are finally set to come down

“People in Croatia pay among the lowest prices for fuel. I can announce that starting next week there will be a noticeable decrease in Croatian fuel prices as well. Petrol should drop by 11 cents, and diesel by should come down by three,” he said.

Geothermal energy

Furthermore, Filipovic pointed out that geothermal energy is “very successful and an excellent story”. “There will be 400 million euros worth of new investments in order to produce electricity from geothermal sources in Croatia. In the end, this could result in as much green, clean energy being produced here as possible,” explained the minister. He then revealed that INA, a company from Great Britain, and another from Turkey are involved in the process.

The HEP scandal and illegal construction

Regarding the HEP scandal that broke out not that long ago, as well as the pressing issue of illegal construction, Filipovic tried to avoid giving any clear answers and said that they (the government) used HEP as a tool to ensure that people could enjoy the second lowest price there is on the market for electricity. When pressed on this answer, he simply said that ”the Prime Minister had answered this question several times already” before moving on again.

The Osijek fire

Regarding the situation with the recent fire in Osijek and the statement made by prefect Ivan Anusic, Filipovic said that first things should be looked at, and then the proper steps should be taken. The local community is asking for the declaration of an ecological disaster, to which Filipovic replied that steps will be taken once it is determined exactly what happened. “We’ll certainly be side by side with our people in Osijek, as we’ve been with others before”, concluded Filipovic.
