August 7, 2024 – 22-year-old Lena Stojković has won the bronze medal in taekwondo at the Olympic Games in Paris!
In the bronze medal fight, Lena overcame Merva Dincet, the world champion from Turkey. Stojković lost to Thailand’s Panipak Wongpattanakit 2:0 in the semifinals in the category up to 49 kilograms.
Stojković chased the sixth medal for Croatia at the Games after shooter Miran Maričić, the Sinković brothers, judoka Barbara Matić, tennis player Donna Vekić and discus thrower Sandra Elkasević.
There were great expectations from Stojković at the Olympic tournament. She is a three-time European and two-time world champion in the category up to 46 kilograms. She won European gold in 2021, 2022, and this year, and was the world champion in 2022 and 2023. Two years in a row, she was declared the best athlete in Croatia in the selection of the Croatian Olympic Committee.
Croatia has so far won five medals in taekwondo at the Olympic Games — Martina Zubčić (bronze in 2008), Sandra Šarić (bronze in 2008), Lucija Zaninović (bronze in 2012), Matea Jelić (gold in 2021) and Toni Kanaet (bronze in 2021).
Stojković dominated at the world and European level in the category up to 46 kilograms, but at the Games, the limit is three kilograms higher. Stojković is a member of the Taekwondo club Marjan from Split, where she was born.
Bravo, Lena!
