Croatia Shows Solidarity With People of France

Croatia shows solidarity with France after the Paris attacks.

The inscription “Zagreb for Paris” in the colours of the French national flag could be seen yesterday evening on the western facade of the Museum of Contemporary Art, in solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris. “We are appalled by the killings of innocent people and mourn together with France and the rest of the world which does not accept terrorism as a form of intimidation”, the Museum of Contemporary Art said in a statement. They also recalled the words of one of the greatest minds of all time, Albert Einstein, who said that peace cannot be achieved by force, but only by mutual understanding, reports Vecernji List on November 15, 2015.

Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić said that, on behalf of the citizens of Zagreb, he has expressed condolences to the Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and has given his support in the fight against such acts of aggression. “City of Zagreb, in solidarity with the City of Lights, will illuminate its fountains in the colours of the French flag. In this symbolic way, we want to express our sympathy for families of the victims and all Parisians. Moments like these remind us of the importance of unity, mutual understanding and support in the fight against terrorism”, said Bandić, who personally came to the Museum of Contemporary Art with a message: Liberté, égalité, fraternité pour toujours!

City of Zagreb, in solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attack and the inhabitants of Paris, has lit up city fountains in colours of the French flag. Numerous other buildings and monuments around Croatia have also been illuminated in the colours of the French flag, including giant steel cranes in the Uljanik shipyard in Pula.

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović has put up candles in the windows of her office at the Presidential Palace and has displayed together flags of Croatia and France as a symbolic message of unity between Croatian and French people.
