Just two days before the expected fall of the current government, HDZ admits it still does not have enough votes for new government to be confirmed.
The government crisis is continuing. Some of the ministers came today to the government building to take part in preparations for Wednesday’s scheduled session of the cabinet. However, after all the preparatory meetings were concluded, the government announced that no session will be held on Wednesday. It is still not known when and if Orešković’s government will ever meet again, reports Večernji List on June 14, 2016.
In the meantime, HDZ leadership met with leaders of parties which are members of its Patriotic Coalition. They discussed the strategy for the new few days. After the meeting, party representatives spoke to the media.
HDZ secretary general Domagoj Ivan Milošević said that the first step was a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Orešković on Thursday and added that the Patriotic Coalition was united in its views. “On Thursday, we are going to vote for the motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister. We have also agreed that Finance Minister Marić will be our candidate for the Prime Minister-designate. We are confident that there is majority in Parliament which will vote in favour of Marić, who will then form the government”, said Milošević.
Asked who would constitute the new majority, Milošević said it would be revealed step by step. “We know which members of Parliament are prepared to support the parliamentary majority. Everybody is welcome: minorities, part of MOST, MOST…”, said Milošević. “The key difference between Marić and Orešković is that Marić has spent his whole life in Croatia, he has worked for many years in the public and private sectors in Croatia. He has much better understanding of the political context, which is not unimportant”, said Milošević.
Asked how many MPs in Parliament they had, Milošević said 68. “That is out starting point, that is how many we have now”, said Milošević, adding that everybody was welcome. “We have 76 MPs, you will see on Thursday. We are not counting on the opposition”, said Milošević.
HSS president Krešo Beljak said that their two MPs would vote for the dismissal of Prime Minister Orešković and will let HDZ try to form a new parliamentary majority.
HSLS president Darinko Kosor said there would either be a new majority or early parliamentary elections. “I expect that we will solve this in the next ten days. We need to urgently form a new majority or say to the citizens that we will have new elections”, said Kosor.
