If you have a top notch, specialised product, competitive by performance and price on the market, you won’t have an issue finding buyers in Europe and China, says director of Geolux Nikša Orlić
Although China has become the synonym of a country from where electronics are imported, a small Samobor based company Geolux, founded by three engineers from the Zagreb Faculty of Electronics, began exporting there their specialised sensors. As announced on Wednesday, they sell them to the Chinese Eagle Technologies company which deals with designing and construction of water resources management systems, Jutarnji List reported on July 13, 2016.
They have managed to find a good niche for themselves on a huge market, and will double their income, to over 2 million Kuna this year. How did they do it? Simple. Eagle Technologies contacted them, after noticing they created specialised radar sensors for Boeing a few years ago, said director Nikša Orlić.
First sensors of water flow speed have already been installed in the irrigation surveillance and management system in the Hetao province in northwest China, ordered by the Chinese Ministry for Water Resources Management, beginning in early July.
“In the beginning we were sceptical of the possibility of exporting electronics to China. However, it turned out if you have a top notch, specialised product, competitive in performance and price, you won’t have a problem finding buyers in Europe and China. And China is a vast market, especially in the segment oh hydrological sensors,” said Orlić. He added the deal is worth a million Kuna, with 350 sensors delivered by the end of the year. Naturally, they’re hoping for new orders.
They are specialised in development of sensors based on radar technology, such as those that measure speed on a road and motion detectors to use in perimeter security systems, while the water flow speed sensor is their newest product.
“We have developed touchless gauges of water flow speed for application in open streams such as rivers and irrigation canals. The advantage of touchless gauges over classical, mechanical gauges that are immersed in water is in the significantly better precision of measurement and lower maintenance costs. Mechanical gauges have an issue with impurities in water that deposit around the gauge and disrupt its activity,” explained Tomislav Grubeša, technical director.
Geolux makes most of its income from export, earning 1.12 million Kuna last year.
