At the conference “Global Green Destination Day” held in Ljubljana from September 27-28, Mali Lošinj received the prestigious certification of ‘Top 100 Sustainable Destinations in the World’ in 2016 – once again upholding the title of sustainable tourism in Croatia.
‘Top 100 Sustainable Destinations in 2016’ is the joint initiative of Green Destinations, TravelMole, Destination Stewardship Center, Asian Ecotourism Network (AEN) and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). In order to qualify for the ‘Top 100’ sustainable destinations in the world, it was necessary meet 15 main criteria that make a destination responsible and green, with themes such as nature and landscape, climate and environment, culture and traditions, people, hospitality, and sustainable destination management, which are the essence of green destination standards. Mali Lošinj has become part of the largest green destination community in the world.
To honor the “island of vitality”, the prestigious certificate was received by the Mayor of Mali Lošinj and green destination ambassador Gari Cappelli. As a green ambassador representative, you become a member of an exclusive community of professionals who are required to contribute to the betterment of destinations and responsible tourism. Ambassadors represent connections between destinations and green destination partnerships, and this connection creates an opportunity for sharing knowledge and experiences with like-minded people from all over the world.
“This award proves Lošinj’s place among the world’s distinctive destinations. Thanks to the synergy of visitors and residents, Lošinj was once again awarded as a destination that puts effort in investing in its sustainability. Based on this, the island is considered a long-term vitality destination that connects natural beauty and rich landscapes with the quality of life on the island,” said the Mayor of Mali Lošinj, Gari Cappelli.
