Lošinj Completes a Record Tourist Year with More than 2m Overnight Stays

With more than two million overnight stays during 2016, Lošinj – the destination of health and vitality – has achieved another successful tourist year and was ranked among the leading Croatian destinations with the most overnight stays.

Thanks to its natural resources, diverse offer, numerous investments, and responsible and creative residents who cooperate daily to help improve the quality of the archipelago, Lošinj recorded a total of 287,582 arrivals (36,964 domestic, 250,618 foreign) and 2,203,155 overnights (289,273 domestic, 1,913,882 foreign) in 2016 and thus exceeded 2015 with 4% more arrivals and 2% more overnight stays, reports HRTurizam on July 6, 2017.

This winter, Lošinj offered a rich program of events full of surprises for islanders and visitors. With a multitude of entertainment, music and sporting events, cultural attractions, restaurants, and unique museum institutions, from December 23, 2016 to January 2, 2017 Lošinj achieved 2,722 arrivals and 8,849 overnights.

Traditionally, winter on the island attracted mostly Austrians (52.7%), Slovenians (14.1%), Croats (12.1%), Germans (10.9%) and Italians (7.2%), with other guests making up 3%. The guests this winter stayed mostly in hotels (2,253 arrivals, 6,487 overnights), but also in private accommodations (169 arrivals, 675 overnights), camping (285 arrivals, 1,361 overnights), and other accommodation facilities (15 arrivals, 326 overnights). 

”We are extremely pleased with last year’s results, and we are entering 2017 upbeat, with a focus on the priority products: health and cultural tourism. In addition, we will focus on activities including the implementation of destination brand management which will have continuous coordination, development of new products, presentations and trainings for renters, and other activities focusing on the projects ETIS and Total Quality Management, which in addition to the quality management of our city in all segments, also contributes to the quality life of our residents,” said the president of the Tourist Board of Mali Lošinj, Ana Kučić.

Based on a 120 year long tradition of health tourism and quality destination management with a long-term commitment and effort, the island of vitality is the winner of many world and European awards. The town of Mali Lošinj in October won the annual Croatian tourism award for the most successful destination for medical tourism, and the Apoksiomen project on the island of vitality won a prize for innovation of the year. At the conference ‘Global Green Destination Day’, Mali Lošinj received the prestigious certification of ‘Top 100 sustainable destinations in the world’ in 2016. 

Lošinj is the recipient of numerous other international travel awards based on high-quality creative work, projects, development programs, tourism presentations and a number of programs that contribute to the overall prosperity, vision and quality of its visitors and residents.
