Marin Čilić lost the opening of the ATP Finals in London to number-one world ranked tennis player Andy Murray. The final score was 6:3, 6:2 after an hour and a half game.

Čilić did not have the best match, unlike the one he played last week in Paris against Novak Djokovic. Against Murray, the best Croatian tennis player now has a ratio of 12-3 in mutual clashes, reports Index.hr.

“Unfortunately, it ended as it ended. I had a feeling that the result would be much stronger and harder than it shows. I could have served a little better today to give me me a few more free points during the game, and especially in the first set I had a few opportunities to get back in the match. Maybe I made a couple of wrong decisions during points, it was a long exchange, but I had expected that before the match and was preparing. If I could I would pull the ball more during the match,” said Čilić.

“Out we were quite equal, maybe I failed a little at service. He managed to create small advantages and I failed to take advantage of a couple of break points, especially in the 3:1 where I had a chance to get back in the match.”

Čilić faces Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka on Wednesday 16 November next.

“I have to prepare definitely a little bit better [against Wawrinka] than for today. Hopefully I can start a little bit better in that match,” concludes Čilić.
