Smoke-Free Split: Some of the Best Non-Smoking Establishments in the City

Believe it or not, amidst all of the cafes and bars where you can smoke inside in Split, there are some truly wonderful establishments where smoking is forbidden – allowing you to wash your clothes of the smoke stench a bit less.

Here are some of the non-smoking establishments in Split that are perfect for a coffee, cocktail, or much needed beer.

Fabrique: Fabrique BBQ and Pub opened in Split last year just a hop, skip and jump from the end of the Riva. Great for coffee during the day in their inviting rustic yet modern interior, the food menu is impressive and the beer list even more so. Classic pub fare, good prices, and an outside smoking section make for a truly breathable (and fun) atmosphere.

Cukarin: Cukarin has a few locations throughout the city including at City Center One and on Žnjan, but the one closest to the city is on Matice Hrvatska near Gripe. This cafe is one of the larger ones in Split, with a range of tables and booths ready for any party size. In addition to a large coffee list, this cafe serves a delicious display of ice creams and cakes. Smoking is only allowed on the outside smoking terrace.

Jazz Bar: Not only is this establish within the walls of Diocletian’s Palace, it is also the birthplace of Marcvs Marvlvs who was the father of Croatian Literature and is also a shooting location in Game of Thrones. Marvlvs Library Jazz Bar is a 15th century style library jazz bar that serves up coffee, cocktails, an impressive beer list, and even has poetry readings and live acoustic music in the evenings. While smoking is not allowed inside, there is a small outside smoking area in the courtyard.

Bajamonti: Located in Prokurative Square, Bajamonti is a cafe and restaurant within the city center that is actually named after a former mayor of Split. A great place for coffee and desserts, this establishment is also famous amongst the locals. Be sure to try their Dalmatian specialities such as the Rožada. There is a special section for smokers outside.

Mala Kavana: The Split 3 Mala Kavana location is newly renovated and a coffee-lovers dream. A definite go-to for university students in Split because of its close proximity to the university, smoking is strictly forbidden inside the modern interior that is decorated with classy chandeliers and colors that pop. This cafe also serves up a number of imported drinks, smoothies, and juices. Smoking is only allowed on the terrace.
