At 14:45 today at the Administrative Court in Split, the planning permission for the controversial golf resort on top of Mount Srdj above Dubrovnik was overturned.
As reported on the 10th of February 2017 by DubrovnikNet, the Administrative Court overturned the decision for planning permission following a lawsuit which was filed by the organisation Green Action and the Dubrovnik grassroots Srdj je Nas! (Srdj is ours) initiative.
Srdj je Nas! and Green Action filed a lawsuit back in 2013 against the decision taken by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, which was at the time headed by Michael Zmajlovic. The decision, which caused and continues to cause controversy and division of opinion among the residents of Dubrovnik, gave a positive assessment of the acceptability of an Environmental Impact Study on the 412 metre tall mountain which towers over the city. By the time September of 2016 rolled around, the process concluded with the elimination of the solution, and consequently saw the Environmental Impact Study repealed.
Planning permission for the golf resort on Srdj was issued by the Ministry of Construction back in October of 2015, close to the end of the mandate of the former technical Minister Anka Mrak Taritas. Both Green Action and Srdj je Nas! immediately began legal proceedings against the permissions, eventually resulting in resolution in favour of the plaintiff.
The result achieved today is an historic one for the Green Action and Srdj je Nas! organisations and means that for the creation of any solf resort on Srdj, investors would be required to entirely re-create an Environmental Impact Assessment and apply for planning permission once again from scratch.
