Even though it might seem like a regular-sized building from today’s point of view, this is actually the oldest residential skyscraper in Zagreb. Designed by Drago Ibler, one of the most famous modernist architects in Croatia, the skyscraper was built between 1956 and 1958.
Colloquially referred to as the Wooden Skyscraper due to its wooden balcony railings and facade, its base part is a two-storey office building, while the residential part consist of a tower structure with eight storeys.
The skyscraper has an exceptional architectural value and is considered to be one of the most important buildings of modern Croatian architecture. It’s been on the List of protected cultural goods since 2004, and it underwent thorough renovation in 2014. As part of Design District Zagreb Festival in 2016 its roof was turned into an urban garden offering its residents a place to relax and enjoy a magnificent view of Zagreb.
