The first day of spring brings a new festival to Zagreb – Welcome Spring Festival, which will be held at Strossmayer Square, March 21 to 26, and organized by Priroda za sve association.
The festival’s main theme is the municipal waste that the citizens are in contact with daily, and that directly affects the air, soil, water and people’s health. Waste is a key issue in the City of Zagreb, but in the rest of Croatia as well, so it is important to raise awareness among citizens and encourage them to recycle.
Based on the European Commission’s 2015 report, Zagreb ranked last among the EU’s 28 capitals when it comes to waste sorting and recycling. This is why the association Priroda za sve decided to organize this event and try to bring people’s attention to problems linked to waste disposal.
The six-day Welcome Spring Festival will give citizens the opportunity to find out more about waste issues, participate in public debates, lectures, workshops, and fun waste sorting competitions.The festival offers a variety of events for all age groups, from workshops, plays and performances for children, to lectures and entertainment programs for adults.
Small waste Olympics (waste sorting competition), theatre and puppet shows, the Confucius Institute’s workshop on Chinese calligraphy, Happy Tai Chi and Spring Rolls workshops, and lectures such as “Ecology in Croatian historiography” are just some of the events that this festival’s diverse program will include.
In addition to rich gastronomy offer during the day, each night you’ll have a chance to listen to live music, including Brain Holidays, JeboTon Ansambl, Nipplepeople and various DJs.
