New Traffic Signs on Motorways to Increase Visibility of Croatian Parks

Now you really have no excuse to miss seeing the parks of Croatia…

To increase the visibility of all national parks and nature parks in Croatia and to popularize those with fewer visitors, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy (MZOIP) has set up new traffic signs on the motorways, announced MZOIP in a press release on May 24, 2017. 

Thus far, as part of the works worth 786,825 HRK financed through the EU Integration Project Natura 2000 (NIP), the signs have been set up at the inter-regional roads of Bosiljevo 2, Lučko and Sredanci, and at the border crossings Bajakovo, Macelj and Bregana to mark the parks. The replacement and installation of new panels for NP North Velebit, NP Risnjak, PP Biokovo, PP Velebit, PP Papuk, PP Učka and PP Žumberak – Samoborsko gorje was also performed.

“The remaining works that require replacing and installing new signage on the motorways will be funded by the Global Environmental Fund grant through the PARCS project ‘Strengthening the Institutional and Financial Sustainability of the National System of Protected Areas’ and should be completed by the end of 2017,” said MZOIP.

All signs on the highways will be compliant with the regulations on the unique visual identity system of protected areas in the Republic of Croatia, which prescribes the new visual identity of national parks and nature parks.

In the opinion of Croatian citizens, preserved nature is the most valuable resource in Croatia which is recognized by many visitors from Europe and around the world. Just last year, the 8 national parks and 11 nature parks in Croatia were visited by more than 3.5 million people.
