Good news for Rijeka and the wider Kvarner area: Eurowings has announced a new regular line that will connect Rijeka and Köln throughout the year, reports Fiuman.hr.
After new regular domestic lines (Rijeka to Split, Dubrovnik, and Osijek) introduced in winter 2016/2017, the upcoming winter will see the new international line; the news are considered a sensational opportunity for the Rijeka Airport and the wider area, as up until now the airport never offered international flights throughout the year but only in summer months.
Introducing flights in the winter period represents a significant step forward for the whole Primorje-Gorski kotar County, its economy and all business subjects related to tourism. The passengers can now get used to easier and quicker transfer options throughout the year. This is a result of great efforts undertaken by Rijeka Airport, the County, the City of Rijeka, the municipality of Omišalj and all local tourist boards; investing in promotion and sustainability of Rijeka Airport is expected to lead to its further development.
Plane tickets for new flights are officially going on sale on July 8, 2017, and can be bought on the Eurowings website. The first flight from Köln to Rijeka will take off on November 10 at 12:35, with a return flight departing on the same day at 14:40.
During the entire winter period (Nov. 10, 2017 – Mar. 21, 2018) the line will operate twice weekly: on Sundays and Fridays from Nov. 10, 2017 to Dec. 1, 2017 and from Jan. 12 to Feb. 16, 2018, as well as on Sundays and Wednesdays from Dec. 6, 2017 to Jan. 3, 2018 and from Feb. 21 to Mar. 21, 2018.
