Croatia is set for a weekend of traffic chaos
With the sunny and dry weather, more and more cyclists and motorists are on the roads, so HAK (Hrvatski autoklub) reported high-intensity traffic on the roads in direction coast and inland.
The traffic was intensified on the A1 motorway exit, Politika Plus reported earlier today, on June 15, stating that HAK reported a 12.5 km long queue in the direction of Zagreb around 2 p.m.
During this weekend, heavy traffic is expected on most of the roads towards the coast especially on Saturday 15th of July, in the morning hours towards the coast, and in the afternoon towards the inland.
On Sunday 16th of July, heavy traffic is expected later in the day, towards the inland.
Traffic jams can be expected on the following sections:
– on the Zagreb bypass road, from east and west, towards the pay toll Lučko
– on the A1/A6 motorway, between Lučko and Bosiljevo 2, in both directions
– on the Istrian motorways, towards the border crossings Kaštel and Plovanija
– on the border crossings with Slovenia (Macelj), Serbia (Bajakovo), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Stara Gradiška, Slavonski Brod, Maljevac, Metković), and Montenegro (Karasovići)
– in ferry ports, towards the islands of Cres, Rab, and Pag, as well as in ferry ports Zadar and Split.
Sections of DC1 state road in Lučko (Zagreb), DC6 state road, section Glina-Dvor border crossing and DC502 Smilčić-Pridraga state road are closed due to roadworks.
It has been reported that a traffic ban for freight vehicles exceeding 7,5 t will come into force on Saturday, July 15, 4 a.m. – 2 p.m., and on Sunday, July 16, 12 p.m. – 11 p.m. on important state roads (DC8 (the Adriatic road), DC9 (Metković-Opuzen), DC21 (Kaštel-Kanfanar), DC23 (Žuta Lokva-Senj). There will be no ban on motorways and on the DC1 state road.
The high temperatures (+30 °C) will be unpleasant for travelling, so HAK advises you bring enough water with you, avoid driving tired, pull over and take regular breaks regularly (after every two hours of continuous driving), and monitor and moderate your AC usage (a maximum difference of 5°C between the inside and the outside area).
