Croatia cried with Čilić yesterday after we watched him struggle through the Wimbledon final in excruciating pain. Now that the tournament is over, the latest ATP rankings have been announced. Where does Čilić place among the best now?
Croatia’s best tennis player Marin Čilić, who lost to Switzerland’s Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final yesterday, has strengthened himself to the number 6 position on the ATP ranking, which is his best career placement, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on July 17, 2017.
Čilić now has 5075 points, which is1065 less than number 5 Stan Wawrinka, and 1045 more than number 7 Dominic Thiem.
Federer won a record eight Wimbledon titles and his 19th Grand Slam title yesterday which helped him jump from number 5 to number 3. In front of Federer is Andy Murray, who kept his number 1 spot despite being knocked out of Wimbledon in the quarterfinal along with Spain’s Rafael Nadal.
Among the top 100 best are Croatia’s Ivo Karlović who is now ranked 25th after falling two places after Wimbledon, and Borna Ćorić who is now ranked 44th. A massive jump was achieved by Croatia’s 26-year-old Viktor Galović who won his first ATP Challenge Tour Title at the Braunschweig Challenger in Germany last week. Galović moved up 267 positions and is now ranked the 224th best player in the world.
