Croatia Defeats Hungary to Become Water Polo World Champions!

The Croatian men’s water polo team has won the title of world champion at the FINA World Championships in Budapest after defeating Hungary 8:6!

Croatia has become the world champion after defeating Hungary in the men’s water polo finals tonight in Budapest, reports Gol.hr on July 29, 2017.

Croatia defeated Hungary tonight in the finals with three goals by Sandro Sukno, two by Javier Garcia, and one each by Marko Macan, Luka Lončar and Maro Joković. Hungary’s team saw three goals by Marton Vamos, and one each by Bela Torok, Kristian Peter Hanhercz and Balasz Erdelyi.

This is Croatia’s second world title in history. Ten years ago in Melbourne at the 2007 World Aquatics Championships, Croatia also defeated Hungary to win the world title. 

This is the sixth consecutive medal for Croatia at the world championships. The Barracudas have won the gold in both Melbourne and Budapest, three consecutive bronze medals in Rome 2009, Shanghai 2011, and Barcelona 2013, and the silver in Kazan two years ago. 

The bronze medal was won by Serbia who defeated Greece 11-8 (5-3, 2-1, 3-3, 1-1).
