Ask anyone about Croatia’s most renowned feature, and they’d probably cite the Adriatic first. The coast is home to our most prestigious tourist destinations, such as Split and Dubrovnik, and a holiday in Croatia usually implies spending a pleasant week at the beach.
However, look inland, and you’ll find many understated gems that are more than deserving of a visit. Who says the sea is the only body of water that presents a perfect holiday destination? Croatia is full of gorgeous lakes and rivers such as Zrmanja; as they get less tourist traffic than the coastal cities, the shores of our inland beauties provide many fantastic spots for those looking to spend a couple of days relaxing, surrounded by stunning natural scenery.
Another great example is the river Krka, situated in central Dalmatia. It’s located in the Šibenik-Knin County, not far from the coast, so it makes for an easily reachable destination for a day trip from Zadar, Šibenik or Split.
Part of the area was proclaimed a national park in 1985, making it the youngest of the seven national parks in Croatia.
