British royal couple arrives for a two-day visit to Croatia
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall arrived in Zagreb for a two-day visit to Croatia. They were received at the Presidential Office by Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and her husband Jakov, reports Index.hr on March 14, 2016.
After the national anthems were played and the review of the honorary military unit, the official joint photo was taken and then the dignitaries started the talks behind the closed doors. Since the British heir to the throne and his wife are not political representatives of the United Kingdom, topics of discussion at the Presidential Office were not current political issues, but rather those that are the focus of their personal interest.
After the meeting with the President, Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall went to the Banski Dvori palace where they met with Croatian Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković. They will also see for themselves the results of the renovation works on historical buildings destroyed during the war.
Afterwards, the British royal couple will go to the Croatian National Theatre where they will attend the program in honour of the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare.
Later in the evening, the Prince and the Duchess will return to the Presidential Office, where a gala dinner will be organized in their honour. The dinner will include 68 invited guests – representatives of Croatian politics, religion, business, arts and sciences. After the dinner, the official gifts will be exchanged. The Prince and Duchess are expected to receive a painting by Matko Trebotić and a bottle of old wine from Ilok, the same one which was served at the coronation ceremonies for Queen Elizabeth.
The royal couple will continue their visit to Croatia tomorrow, when they will travel to Osijek and Đakovo in Slavonia.
