Fancy soaking up a bit of culture when in Dubrovnik?
A solo exhibition of paintings by local Dubrovnik artist and captain Stjepko Mamic will open at Galerija Sebastian on Friday, December the 8th, 2017 at 18:00 The curator of the exhibition is art historian Andrea Batinić Ivanković.
Internationally renowned artist Capt. Stjepko Mamic has attracted the international attention of a circle of collectors and art critics who have been attracted to his colourful, mystical style and charismatic personality. In the set of paintings set to be exhibited in Gallerija Sebastian, the works point to the artist’s attachment to his living space and his the former journey that permeates the feelings of the idyllic sea and the shadows of some past worlds that continue to ”flash” through everyday life.
The exhibition consists of a total of more than twenty paintings created by a combined technique on canvas where the artist’s firm, secure brush strokes interpret the characteristic states and situations of the sea and under the sea, life and the co-existence of people with their environment and the dominant time situation, encompassed by a scene of emotional closeness.
Stjepko Mamić was born, lives and works in Dubrovnik. He graduated at the Academy of Port-Royal in Paris (Prof. Jean Maxim Relange and Prof. Dina Pickard) and at the Academy of Arts in Florence (Italy Prof. Sonia De Franceschi).
The sources and inspiration for Stjepko’s art lies in the sea. In his recent works, Stjepko explores new materials and art ideas using new and old techniques to create stunning works and many art critics: Paolo Levi, Vittorio Sgarbi, Anna Francesca Biondolillo, Salvo Nugnes, Mariarosaria Belgiovine, Salvatore Russo etc, have written reviews about Stjepko’s paintings, which can be found in numerous art books, catalogs, magazines and online releases.
Stjepko’s work has also been featured in numerous galleries, museums and private collections worldwide, leading him to receive many international awards for his numerous works. Stjepko is also a member of many international art associations, such as: Fondation Taylor, Paris, France; Société des Artistes Indépendants, Paris, France; Accademia Culturale Europea, Rome, Italy; Croatian Society of Fine Artists-Dubrovnik (HDLU-Dubrovnik); ICAF – International Federation of Culture and Art, South Korea; Art Nation, International Association of Artists, Munich, Germany; Gogyoshi Art Project International and others.
He has exhibited independently and with groups of other artists in Croatia and the world (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, France, Italy, Switzerland, England, Belgium, USA, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Scotland, Macedonia, The Netherlands, Slovakia and Iran).
