On Saturday, 17 March, 2018 the Split fish market ‘Peškarija’ will transform into a night of entertainment, music and dancing, all in the name of a good cause – to support the reforestation of the surrounding areas of Split impacted by the 2017 fires.

I love when people think outside the box and transform an area – like the fish market – into something other than what we know it as. Call it a pop-up, or whatever you like but the fact remains, I would like to see more of it and Split is the perfect setting.

This weekend, Saturday 17 March 2018, the Peškarija turns Disco, the first in a series of events in support of the upcoming Porin wave. For the fourth year, Split will host the Porin awards which celebrates its 25th Anniversary. ‘The increase in artists, albums, recordings and voting categories, confirms that Porin is the most important event of the Croatian music scene.’

The lead up to Porin will be marked by a host of collaborative events around the city of Split. The disco at Peškarija will kick-start the celebrations, with DJ Ante Jakir and Marina Klarić accompanying on saxophone.

This year is expected to be a special audio and visual spectacle titled – ‘Stone Heart’ which has an activist element to it. Visitors will be able to purchase a heart-shaped stone which has been collected from the surrounding areas of Split which were affected by the catastrophic 2017 fires; all money will then go towards the reforestation of those areas.

The action was initiated by local Split artist Zrinka Barbarić who cooperated with Croatian Forests, Split-Dalmatian County. Hopefully, we will see more similar actions by the county to come.

The event starts at 20:00 and goes through until midnight, so dust off your dancing shoes and be ready to pull out your wallet in support of a great cause. The fires of 2017 were a true tragedy, now it is our chance to have a positive impact on nature and give back.

See you all there!
