ZAGREB, April 9, 2018 – Croatia’s commodity exports in the first two months this year totalled 15.53 billion kuna, which was 1.6% lower compared to the corresponding period of 2017, whereas the imports amounted to 26.18 billion kuna, or 9.7% more year-on-year, according to the preliminary figures released by the national statistical office (DZS) on Monday.
As a result, Croatia’s foreign trade deficit rose by 2.55 billion kuna to 10.64 billion kuna at the end of February 2018 compared to the same period in 2017.
In the first two months of 2018, Croatia’s exports to other EU countries grew by 5.4% to 10.81 billion kuna, while the exports to non-EU countries declined by 14.6% to 4.72 billion kuna.
Croatia’s imports from EU countries grew by 10.2% to 21.04 billion kuna. In addition, the imports from non-EU markets also rose by 7.5% to 5.13 billion kuna.
The final figures on the export and import trends in January show that Croatia’s commodity exports in January this year grew by 3.2% to 7.8 billion kuna compared to January 2017, while imports grew by 14.6% to 12.98 billion kuna.
The deficit was 5.2 billion kuna and the import-export coverage, thus, was 60.1%.
