Yesterday we were swimming in the sea; today we’re searching for our sweatpants with a cup of tea. Welcome to another chapter of weird weather in Dalmatia.
September 24, 2018 – On Monday afternoon, a cold front swept through Dalmatia which saw hurricane-like winds create chaos in the region. According to data from Pljusak.com, the strongest winds were first recorded in Kaštel Gomilica (66 km/h) and at the FESB measuring station (63 km/h). Around 12:30, bura winds were recorded on Marjan measuring 99 km/h, though the DHMZ Split Marjan station recorded winds of up to 122 km/h, reports Dalmacija Danas on September 24, 2018.

Chaos erupted on the streets of Split, as fallen trees scattered throughout the city, containers ran loose, and traffic slowed due to the dirt and leaves soaring through the sky. A bus stop was even reported as being damaged!

There were also problems in air and sea traffic. A ferry from Supetar departed from Brač with a half-hour delay, and Split Airport temporarily suspended takeoffs and landings until the weather conditions improved.
“Split airport is open. We are waiting for the storm to calm. Two planes are waiting for takeoff, two for landing, who have been in the air for fifteen minutes. These are the flights from Stuttgart and Paris,” said Mirko Žužul, Head of Traffic at Split Airport, reports Dalmatinski Portal.
Major problems are not expected.
