After a record summer, Pula Airport is set to welcome its 700,000th passenger on Thursday.

After a record June, July, August and September, when Pula Airport achieved over 100,000 passengers for four consecutive months for the first time in history, the airport is still kicking in October as the successful series of record numbers continue, reports HRTurizam on October 17, 2018.

Namely, on October 18, 2018, Pula Airport will welcome their 700,000th passenger, which has not been recorded at Pula Airport since Croatia became independent. Moreover, on October 20, Pula Airport will surpass the historical record from 1987, when 701,370 passengers traveled through the airport – known as the highest number ever.

“Until now, the total turnover from January to September increased by 21% compared to last year, when we had a tremendous increase in the number of passengers by 36.5%,” says Director of Pula Airport, Svemir Radmilo.

Passengers at Pula Airport this year could choose to travel to 20 countries in Europe, with 42 companies to 76 destinations, the most they ever had.

“At Pula Airport, we are proud of the fact that airlines, even under increased peak loads, recognized our work and professionalism, and relationship with business partners and passengers, which keeps the seriousness, safety, and top-of-the-range services constant,” Radmilo concluded, and emphasizes that this is a historic and important event for the entire Istrian economy.

The highest passenger traffic was realized by Split Airport, with 625,000 passengers (up 5.8% compared to August 2017), followed by Dubrovnik Airport with 479,000 passengers (up 9.2% compared to August 2017) and Zagreb Airport with 372,000 passengers (up 7.2% compared to August 2017).

The most significant international passenger traffic was achieved by German airports, recording 329,000 passengers, which is an increase of 10.8% from the same period last year. The number of take-offs and landings at airports in August 2018 was 19,271, which, compared to August 2017, is an increase of 5.1%, according to the data of the Central Bureau of Statistics.
