After almost three and a half hours of tennis, Borna Ćorić advanced to the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 series tournament in Monte Carlo.

Three hours and 28 minutes were needed for Borna Ćorić to win against Spaniard Jaume Munar 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4), 6-4. This is the first time in Ćorić’s career that he’s reached the third round of the ATP tournament in Monte Carlo, reports Gol.hr on April 16, 2019.

The 22-year-old Zagreb-native once again proved to be one of the biggest opponents in ATP tournaments today. The Croatian national defeated Munar after compensating for a set and break behind (6-7, 2-4); at 5-5 in the second set, he saved three break points (0-40), and in the tie-break, he saved the match point (6-5).

Immediately at the start of the decisive set, Ćorić made a break and confirmed a 2-0 lead. After that, Borna had another break for 4-1 but allowed Munar to return for 3-4. In the eighth game, Ćorić pulled two more break points (15-40). He missed the first two match points when the 22-year-old Spaniard served to stay in the match, but realized his victory on his third chance.

Ćorić will have a day off on Wednesday, which will come in handy after almost three and a half hours of tennis, during which he managed to save 12 of the 15 break points to advance him to the last 16.

Ćorić awaits the winner of Kei Nishikori and Pierre-Hugo Herbert, which is scheduled on Wednesday. Recall, Ćorić defeated Herbert in their only duel at the ATP Masters in Madrid, while he lost to Nishikori in the 2015 tournament in Tokyo.

In the round of 32, Argentinian player Guido Pella defeated Marin Čilić  6-3, 5-7, 6-1.

Mate Pavić and Oliver Marach will play in the round of 16 doubles on Wednesday against Argentinian duo Horacio Zeballos and Maximo Gonzalez, while Nikola Mektić and Franko Škugor face Feliciano Lopez and Karen Khachanov in the same round.
