The promotion of the book Restaurant Croatica “100 leading Croatian restaurants and their recipes for 2019/2020” was held in Rijeka, on the Marina Botel. This is the 24th edition of the book, available both in print and online, in English and in Croatian, published by Gastronaut.
During 2018, over 2,500 restaurants (both stand-alone and hotel restaurants) in Croatia were visited and the top one hundred were chosen to be represented in the book with an article, a photo and the recipes for their original dishes.
Both the visitors of the www.gastronaut.hr website and restaurateurs voted for the final list. The project was started in 1995, and has since tried to serve as an incentive for continued improvements in the quality of service and meals offered.
You can browse through the older editions here. Those hundred restaurants have received their plaques and the stickers “Restaurant Croatica”, containing the QR code which will lead you directly to the book’s online edition. 476 restaurants made the list in the past, and six Croatian restaurants were able to make the list in each of the editions. The project manager and the edition editor is Karin Mimica.
The book is 240 pages long, and in it you can find the recipe for tuna tartar, goat cheese and dried tomatoes quiche, Teran and chocolate cake, sea urchin pasta and many other specialties. It will soon be available in the bookstores, as well as at some Tisak and Croatian Post Office locations, and you can order it on the website as well.
The presentation of the book and the award ceremony for the plaques was held on Marina Botel, and as you would expect, a lot of amazing food and wines were served to those who attended.
Let’s just mention some of the wines: Deklić, D’oro, Krauthaker, Matić, Pavlomir, Perak, Sladić, PZ Gospoja, PZ Svirče, Valenta, Zigante, wines by the members of the Graševina Croatica Association. Awarded amaro and pelinkovac, by Darna and 30-year-old Brioni NIMCO cognac were also offered.
