A very interesting piece from Imotski-Svitnjak on weaving patterns in Imotski region.

The weaving patterns are extremely colorful in the Imotski area. Mostly, a geometric pattern made out of rhomboids, triangles, strips and zig-zags are being used. Each one has its own colour, they are separated, usually by the colours being added according to the principle of contrast (hot-cold, chromatic – achromatic, bright-dark). On the other hand, these patterns are being linked into a unit like a puzzle.

The very common “stepped” lines contributes to this particularly, as by using them the geometric shapes connect through their outstanding parts. Compositions are strictly smmetrical. Most of them being central compositions. Sometimes, it is a series, that has a compositional centre in the middle, and sometimes, it only has a few elements, mostly stepped rhombs.

The central composition does not occur as a zig-zag series of lines, they are in a regular rhythm stretchin from the beginning to the end of the surface, and act as a part of an infinite series, which is only “happening” on the surface of this particular fabric.
